A quick list of favorites

I've had this problem for the past few weeks.  It appears as though I've turned into a teenage boy.  Waking up in the morning is torturous [even on nights where I get 8 hours of sleep], my niece tells me multiple times throughout the day that I "smell like stink", and I'm constantly hungry.  I have a feeling the first and last problems are related to ramping up my running as I prep for my half marathon.  The stink issue?  Yeah, my niece just likes to pick on me.  Pinkie promise I shower and deodorize at least six days out of the week.  Anyways, this whole being dead tired all the time thing tends to make me forgetful.  Luckily I didn't forget to do a Favorite Things Friday post.  Unluckily, I'm too tired to think of what my favorite things were this week.  Umm...I know I'm super excited about the birthday present I got for my sister.  Also, I'm obsessed with Netflix and all the awesomeness I can watch on it.  And we had stir fry.  Seriously, that's all my brain is allowing me to remember right now.
Take pity on me.
P.S. I accept sympathy in the form of Cadbury mini eggs.  Or Reese's eggs.  Just FYI.

Early edition

Hey look, I'm so on top of things this week that I'm doing my FTF post a mere 9 minutes into Friday!  Please, please, keep the applause to a minimum.  I'll be honest though, its late [or early?] and I just got done doing the most ridiculous homework assignment ever.  You know the kind, where the questions are so easy that you tell yourself the answer you came up with can't be right and you go back and analyze [and re-analyze if you're me] everything until you come the the conclusion that maybe, just maybe it is as easy as it looks?  Yep, I just finished one of those and now my brain is fried!  Here's what I do remember from this week...
1.  A work meeting on Sunday that mostly involved us goofing off for two and a half hours.
2.  Making our own butter at Relief Society night...you know, where you put it in the little container and shake it for hours and hours [ok, so it was only like fifteen minutes]
3.  Being brave
4.  Actually running, after taking a couple weeks off.
5.  Getting mail from my Mom.  And getting my new clothes.
6.  Hot tamales and chocolate milk
7.  Discovering that the weird looking apples from the sister's bountiful basket are actually delicious!
8.  Finding out that my best friend is having a girl this time!
9.  Doing laundry and actually folding 2 out of the 3 loads.  Thats a huge accomplishment for me.
10.  And my favorite thing from this week...I'm going BACK TO NEVADA tomorrow!!!
I'll tell ya about it later.  And I promise that while I'm there I'll try to take more pictures than last time...which won't be too difficult of a goal to achieve.  Ha!

Sometimes I remember things...sometimes

Hey, look guys, I'm doing a Favorite Things Fridays post!  Woooo!  Remember how its been, oh, like a month since I've done one?  Way to stay on top of things Torr.  But anyways, here we go:

1.  Actually doing a Favorite Things Fridays post...and actually doing it on Friday!
2.  Charlie is so cool like.  I seriously can't pick a favorite, but this one sure is up there.  While you're at it, check out the his Twilight video, and the Bieber Fever one too.
3.  This [direct] quote from my boss:  "Torrie, if you were to ever move home or something, I would call up the nearest store we have there and say 'Hey listen, hire Torrie because she's amazing' because, well you are.  You're the best."
4.  The fact that come Sunday, I will have had pizza for dinner three times this week.  Yikes.
5.  Getting the all clear to go home next weekend.
6.  My super cute new boat shoes.
7.  Being invited to a birthday at North Gate [supposedly its the new cool place in town...we'll see].
8.  Just Dance.  And not actually playing it, but doing it in the back ground with Stace Face while everyone else is playing.  And did you know you can look the videos up on YouTube?  I think I shall have to go practice.  Or something.
9.  Not having to wear a jacket.  And being this close to rolling down my windows on the way home from work because it was sweltering inside my car.
10.  Daylight savings.  Because even though my sleep schedule is all kinds of thrown off, its sunshiney outside until 7:00 p.m.

And that has been my week.  In a nutshell.  So to speak.  Pretty much.  Yeah.

2/18/11

Its Friday!

And time for Favorite Things Fridays!  Yaaaaayyyyy!

I'll be honest, I spent most of this week wishing it was over.  And I plan on doing the same thing next week [until sister and my rambunctious nephews get here!] and the week after that, and probably the one after that too.  You see, in three weeks from now I'll be in Nevada.  Sigh.  I miss that place.  Sagebrush, casinos, red-light districts, all of it.

One of my top 5 pet peeves is when people hear I'm from Nevada and automatically assume I'm from Vegas.  Ew.  In my opinion, Vegas should just be sold to Arizona.  There is definitely more to Nevada than that-city-which-shall-not-be-named.  Don't believe me?  Take a look at this

[Pictures to come tomorrow when I'm on my own computer :)]

I.  Love.  It.  Oh well, until then here are some of my favorites:

Going out to a delicious post-birthday dinner at Applebee's.  My craving for a burger and fries was more than fulfilled.

A joint birthday lunch with one of the BFFs at Millhollow.  I'd forgotten how good their sandwiches are!  And I got a coupon for a free starter size yogurt.  Ka-ching!

My Valentine's Day surprise

Watching animal videos on Youtube with the niece and nephew.

Queen Helene's Mint Julep face mask.  Its so tingly fresh!

Listening to T. Swift pretty much 24/7.  Thank you iPod.  Thank you iPod car connector thingy.  Thank you iPod dock.  Thank you iTunes.  Just, thank you.

Two of the cutest kids ever coming in to work tonight.  One was my best friend after I gave him a sticker.  The other dropped his candy and yelled, "Aw snap!"  Holy for precious.

This quote from the niece, "You hafta be patient Aunt Torr.  I'm doin' a procedure on my baby!"  Remember how she's not even three years old yet?

Homemade pizookies.

Justin Bieber on Glee.  And the return of Fizbo the clown on Modern Family.  And some serious PDA on The Office.

Anne of Green Gables.  The bro-in-law got it for the sister for V-Day.  Lucy Maud Montgomery had to have been a genius to even think up the mess of imagination that takes place in Anne's head.

Not too bad for a week that I never thought would end, eh?

Favorite Things...Saturdays?

Maybe I should change it since I clearly can't post about my favorite things on Friday.
Ehhhh.
To be honest, I really can't think of favorite things from this week.  I mean, it was my birthday which was obviously my favorite.  And my presents are most definitely my favorite.  Especially my new book and my iTunes gift card that is providing such musical enjoyment to my ears as I type this.
Oh, and the 50-ish year old guy I saw today with a bright blue mohawk.
That was pretty bomb.
But really, its been one of those weeks.
Where I worked three full days
[you may roll your eyes at that, but 7.5 hours X 3 days of rude customers &
smelly feet sure do wear you down].
Where I stressed about my "unofficial bridesmaid" outfit for little sister's wedding.
I did find out what her teal was today, though.  We were completely shocked by the color [we were picturing brighter] but I do believe we may have found something that'll work.
Where I found out in a week and a half I have a lab exam and a lecture exam,
days apart from each other.
Thanks a lot teacher.
Where my co-worker "C" decided to exaggerate about how "L" was on a rampage about "R" and myself not doing a good job closing...when really we did and "L" threw no such fit.

Good thing I still had left over birthday cupcakes when I got home from work tonight.

2/5/11

A day late...

And probably a dollar short, but I'd rather not think about that.  So, I was going to do my Favorite Things Fridays post on Friday [go figure], but then my hormones got in the way.  They're sneaky little buggers, you'd better watch out for them.

Mine, not yours.
But yours are probably
sneaky little buggers, too.

They like to have a dance party all throughout my body and make me grumpy, then happy, then grumpy, then happy, then extremely giggly, and back to grumpy, over, and over, and over.  Oh, you know the feeling?  Yeah.  Lets just say they ended on a grumpy note yesterday and I decided I needed some sleep.  And boy oh boy can I just say it was the best sleep ever?  Well, minus the really creepy dream where I was in a horror movie and everyone kept dying gruesome Hunger Games style deaths.  But other than that, it was pure bliss.

Well, onward and upward, here's the list from this week:

1.  Making valentines for FHE.  Like we had stacks of construction paper, scissors, glue sticks, and glitter crayons all for the purpose of making our very own cheesy kindergarten-style valentines.  Whoever came up with that idea definitely deserves a big pat on the back.

2.  Standing next to someone who is 6'6".  I never get to feel short.  It was kinda weird, actually.

3.  Getting pumped up to go to work every day by reminding myself that my chocolate milk [courtesy of the boss lady] is in the back room fridge, just waiting for me to partake of its goodness.

4.  Some random lady giving my co-worker her Cosmo magazine because she "looks like a girl who reads Cosmo."  FYI lady, she doesn't.  And now its just chilling in the back room because no one at work reads Cosmo.  Although I did go through it once to smell the perfume samples.

5.  And on my way through said Cosmo, I found this:

You'd better believe this face has taken up residency on my bulletin board.  Oh yeah.

6.  Crunchy Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.  'Nuff said.

7.  Getting a birthday letter from my missionary friend.  And finding out she comes home on JULY 13th!!!!!  Yesssssssss!!!

8.  Day off + the family at the brother-in-law's parent's house for the night = Torr gets to sleep in tomorrow.  And watch The Office all.day.long.  Double yessssssssss!!!

And now, bring on the birthday week!  Hip hip hooooooorrrrrraaaaayyyyyy!

Fave rave

It's Friday.
You know what that means, right?
Yep, Favorite Things Fridays!
Here's my favorite thing(s) from each day this week.

Monday:
FHE missionary blitz...we got in groups and went around to tell people who are "qualified", as I so awkwardly put it, to come to our local singles ward.  Lets just say we had a lot of people looking at us like we were complete crazies.  I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time.
And I maybe accidentally kindasorta
started driving off while one of the girls
with me was still halfway out of the car.
Yeah, not living that one down anytime soon.

Tuesday:
Got a 100% on case study numero dos.  Ridiculously ridiculous, but at least we had better luck figuring this one out.  And we won't have another case study all semester.  Hallelujah.

Wednesday:
Went to a Relief Society activity night where we learned about the importance of reading to children.  Honestly, I thought it might end up being bogus but I wanted to be supportive and went.  It.  Was.  Amazing.
A:  We got 3 children's books read to us.
B:  I actually learned a ton about reading to children and how it affects development.
C:  They had cookies.  Enough said, right?
Plus, since Melissa was leaving the next
day, we had a movie night with Audrey.
Tea for Two.  Love me some Doris Day.

Thursday:
My long, loong, looong day at work ended and I came home to a super nice compliment.  Also, I read my friend's blog and was reminded of just how awesome she is.
Shout out to Nique:
You are most definitely REDhot[squared].
Red-hot high heels X red-hot redhead.
And I'm glad we're friends.

Friday:
Remember my snorting boss friend?  Yeah, she used the money we won in one of our weird contests we're always doing and bought us all snacks for the back room.  She specifically bought me my very own half gallon of chocolate milk.  Its beyond hilarious.

Honorable mentions:
The nephew wanting me to play "I'm gonna catch you!" every second of every day.
My eye doctor literally laughing at how blind I am.
My new purple boots!
Getting my hair fixed, and having it smell like lavender all day long.
Talking to The Mom like pretty much every day this week.
Seeing Finn Hudson on some late night show, and realizing he's just as goofy in real life.
I ♥ him.

Anyone else care to share?

FTF on TFT

In case you need a little bit of help, that stands for:
Favorite Things Fridays
on
Torr's Favorite Things.

For some reason, its kindasorta my favorite that I refer to it as that in my head.
Strangely, its also my favorite that I can remember NKOTBSB off the top of my head (that one's New Kids on the Block/Back Street Boys...so maybe I'm in love...don't judge).

Hey, so remember how I only had one little teeny weeny baby hour of class today?  And the rest of the day was completely FREE to do whatever the hey I wanted?  Yeah, its kinda awesomesauce.
(p.s. don't worry, I'm not trying to copy BBL
I legit said that before I heard awesomespice
...its a hometown kinda thing)

Well, without further ado here's my list of favs from the week:

1.These quotes:
--Haven't you ever done sphincter exercises?  I can show you how.
Thanks but no thanks, weirdo classmate
--He signed his initials so weird, it was almost satanic looking.  Or maybe I meant Japanese.
Oh, there's a difference?  I kid, I kid

2. Yesterday at work, I scored two lip glosses for less than the regular price of one.  Gotta love BOGO and $2 off coupons.

3. Homemade pizza.  I could probably eat that stuff breakfast, lunch, and dinner straight.  Man am I glad the pregnant sister was craving it this week!

4. The niece decided she really likes me this week.  Like REALLY likes me.  Like she keeps telling me, "You're my best friend Aunt Torr!"  And right now I'm typing one-handed because she's holding the other.

5. Watching the bro in law play Mario Kart.  Dude gets waaay into it.

6. Finding out I only missed 2.5 points on that death lab I was talking about the other day.  And I have a feeling it was probably for the one question I just straight up gave up on and refused to answer.

7. Remember my hoot owl PJs?  They showed up in the mail today.  Happy face X 1000.

8. Talking to one of my BFFs on the phone.  And how her phone keep spazzing out and dying.  And how we both would be right in the middle of a story each time that happened.  And how each time we wouldn't realize that it had died until oh about 3 minutes later.  Yeah, we're both pretty cool like that.

9. The awesome start to my morning.  I went to get in the shower and realized that it was 9:45.  I usually leave for class at about 9:50.  See the problem?  I had to make a split-second decision between just getting dressed and leaving for class (smelling like a boy's locker room) or showering and getting ready REAL fast.  I went with the shower.  And got to enjoy the amazing sensation of my hair freezing to my head as I speed walked to class.  And got some awesomely incredulous looks from the people I passed by.  I could just see them saying in their heads, "Doesn't she realize its like 2 degrees out here?  What is she thinking?!"  Um yes, I did realize thank you very much.  And my favorite part of it all?  The one boy in my class I think is cute-ish decided today would be the best day to sit in the back row...
rightnexttome.
Did I mention that on a scale of one to homeless, I was looking beyond homeless today?
Murphy's law, much?

10. Remember how this is my Freedom Weekend?  Girl's night tonight and friend shopping date tomorrow?  Plus Subway and ice cream?
Yeah, can't really get higher on the favorites list than that.
Kinda ironic that its the last thing on the list then, eh?  Thats just cuz I do what I want.

Frienday

Today was a good day.
Actually, good may not cover it.  More like today was a superfreakingfantasticawesomeamazingwonderfulbomb.com day.
Yeah, it was that good.
And all because of--you guessed it--FRIENDS!!!

As in, I made a new friend in class today, wrote a letter to my friend on a mission, went and visited one of my two bestest friends (and her adorable baby who loves me the most!), saw old awkwardish "friends" while at work, made my boss friend snort laugh lots and lots, and then went and hung out with my old roomfriend and her friend and her friend's friend.  Amazazing, right?  So yeah, it was a very friendly day overall.  And my car may have gotten stuck in the treacherous snow and I may have had to push it out (with the roomfriend's help, of course).  You should probably be impressed.

Here's what's on the menu for my "Favorite Things Fridays" this week:

Stace Face:
Guitar's Unplugged 2008...I think.
this is the roomfriend I was talking about.  Holy heifer this girl is a hoot and a half!  And we definitely make a good team--especially when convincing her friend to go visit her (male) friend.
It worked out perfectly.
He was excited to see her.
Definite win for Team Torr & Stace
Also, we're going to open a cupcake shop together.  I'm in charge of sprinkles.

G's Dairy:
Gavin's Mess.  Chocolate ice cream + caramel swirl + oreos = 'nuff said.

Health:
I ended up only being sick for oh about 8 hours.  If even.

Being a kid:
Sometimes I feel like I'm supposed to be a grown up, but I don't exactly know how to.  And then I read a post on Busy Bee Lauren the other day about what "growing up" means and it reminded me of something I'd heard before--whatever age you are is a combination of all the ages you've already been.  So therefore its perfectly acceptable if I choose to act any age from 23 on down.  And lately its been about 19.

Breaking curfew:
So I normally do like to follow rules...mostly...but tonight I didn't even pay attention to what time it was as we were visiting this roomfriend's friend's (male) friend's apartment.  And then his self-proclaimed "rule sticker to-er" roommate kicked us out and said it was after one!  Bah!  I've always wanted to get kicked out of somewhere for breaking curfew.  Mission accomplished.
We also basically got kicked out of Wal-Mart
Who knew it closes at 11 on a Friday night?
Irregardless, another point for Team Torr & Stace

People who get my humor:
So, I kindasorta LOVE making people laugh.  This one time I got my grandpa to laugh so hard he cried. Twice.  Usually I feel like people just don't get me though and my humor feels wasted.  But this week something happened and I've had 'em in stitches!  I could get used to this...

Buns in the oven:
So many people I know are pregnant.  Dos of my sisters, dos of my good friends, and a few randoms here and there.  And so far I've predicted about half of them.  I know, I'm good.  Now we'll just have to wait and see how my gender predictions hold up.

Speaking of buns:
My middle-aged, never married, childless co-worker decided to share this advice with me the other day..."What you need to do is find yourself a hot tamale and start poppin' out some babies."  I've never uttered a more nervously awkward laugh in my life.

Friends:
I think I may have already made my point, and to avoid unnecessary redundancies I'll leave it at that.  But man oh man it was a friendly week.

P.S. I hope you like my addition of the picture.
I guess now that I've figured it out,
I'm going to have to do it more often.
Blast.

Favorite Things Friday

Ahhh, my favorite day of the week!  And to celebrate, I'd like to hereby declare every Friday here on Torr's Favorite Things be renamed Favorite Things Friday (insert trumpet fanfare and some applause here).    I really wanted to have some kind of regular post focusing on some of my favs because A) I have a lot of favorite things (now remember, these things might actually be my favorite or they might sarcastically be my favorite...I'll make sure to differentiate) and B) helloooo, read the blog name...now read the title of this post...go ahead and read both of them again if you're a slow learner...it just kinda makes sense, right?  So here are a few of my most favoritest of favorite things from this past week:

  • Someone FINALLY did their job and cleared the sidewalks off in front of where I live.  I was about this close to actually investing in some YakTraks because I'm so stinkin' tired of falling on my rear end.  I'd also like to give a shout out to the sun for shining and helping melt that treacherous sheet of ice.  Much appreciated.
  • Whoever decided to be a fashion genius and invent this whole wear-your-long-socks-outside-of-your-pants-with-boots trend.  I might be a little obsessed with it...and I just might plan my outfit around the pair of socks I want to wear that day.  Don't judge.
  • Speaking of fashion, wearing brown and black together.  Stacy and Clinton were right, as usual.  Those two neutrals were made for each other.
  • My wonderfully weird teacher.  I can't even begin to describe how awkwardly funny this man is.  This is the second semester in a row that I've had a class with him and he never ceases to amaze me.  Here's  a little taste of what he served us today: "It always makes me nervous when a 22 year old guy is asking me how viagra works...but I always tell him anyways!"  Priceless.
  • Staying up late every night this week and regretting it pretty much every morning.  And now that its Friday I can stay up late, sleep in a bit, and not have to feel guilty about it!  I love weekends!
What are some of your favorite things from this week?
